Established in July 2002, Green Watershed is a non-profit organization that  aims to promote participatory and integrated river basin management in China. By advocating for social and environmental assessment it hopes to influence decision makers, thereby preventing or reducing the volume of large hydropower dams constructed along the Yunnan's rivers. The organization is headed by Professor Yu Xiaogong and has the Yunnan Association of Science and Technology as its official sponsor.
